RI-MAN robot weighing 100 kg can distinguish eight different types of odor, follow the voice instructions to where and use light source to identify signals on human face.
With a height of 1.58 meters, RI-MAN robot can carry a doll weighing 12 kg and carry a person weighing 70 kg.
RI-MAN robot is covered by a 0.5 cm thick layer of soft silicone and equipped with sensors to recognize the weight and position of people.
Toshiharu Mukai, head of the research team said: "We hope RI-MAN robots will be able to take care of the elderly or participate in rehabilitation" in the future.
" We will develop the ability to detect human health through breathing, " he added.
Japan is strengthening its demand for caring for the elderly to solve the world's longest-lived population problem.
