Currently, Sagarmatha Park is a destination in Nepal attracting quite a number of international visitors. In 1979, the number of tourists coming to the park was only 3,600 people, by 2010 it had increased to 25,000 people. Revenue from tourism has contributed to the local economic growth and improve the living standards of indigenous people. However, the increase in the number of tourists also affects the overall ecological environment and threatens the ecosystems and vegetation here. Besides seeing the benefits from the tourism business, some businesses illegally built trails to the mountains. Waste from tourism activities has also been a major threat to Sagarmatha Park. Recognizing the importance of protecting the natural environment and the natural landscape of the Heritage, the Government of Nepal has issued many regulations on the management, conservation and exploitation of this heritage site. A team of professional soldiers from the national army is here to protect and enforce the law if there is any violation of the Heritage. The Nepalese government provides 50% of park revenue for local community activities as well as conservation works. In addition, Sagarmatha National Park has received a lot of attention from the international community. Many experts and volunteers from different organizations around the world have come here to support the Heritage Management Board in implementing these Natural Heritage conservation and development programs and plans.
