NSK used a Microsoft Kinect image and a proximity sensor to create visualization of obstacles in front with 3D images.
Observed in the video below we can see the "robot dog" that led a blinded scientist to go up and down the stairs at the steps, moving slower than walking without obstacles.

On a flat surface, robots can move faster thanks to the wheels, but the leg joints are changed when passing through obstacles. The 'leg' of the 'robot dog' contains sensor devices to avoid obstacles when moving through.

The 'robot dog' is controlled by pre-programmed software and withstands the pressure from the blind's arm. In addition, it gives users instructions to distinguish the voice of a female mannequin.
Last week, Japan's largest automaker, Toyota unveiled a plan for a hi-tech robot nurse to lift disabled patients out of bed and help them walk.
It is expected that Toyota will introduce and announce some new inventions in 2013.
