Dental treatment has always caused some inconveniences to patients for a long time. However, with the new method developed by Singapore National Dental Center, patients will both save costs, as well as shorten the duration of treatment.

Singapore National Dental Center developed 3D printed dentures.

This small device can help patients grow dentures. Normally, patients will have to take molds to make teeth models, then doctors can make dentures for patients. Doctors need to make sure that the dentures will be strong and help the sick person not to have pain when eating or drinking.

However, with the new 3D printing root implant method, patients will shorten treatment for 6 months, and most of all, they can save about S $ 2,000, equivalent to about VND 34 million.

3D root is printed with calcium material, like the natural texture of human teeth.

Goh Bee Tin, Representative of Singapore Orthodontic Orthopedics Center shared: '3D root will be printed with calcium material, like the natural texture of human teeth. They will continue to grow when implanted into the jaw, creating a firm drive to attach the denture's screw. '

The new method is currently prescribed for children aged 15 and over, and is applied at dental centers throughout Singapore.

3D printing industry is growing and being applied in many different fields. Health in general, or dentistry in particular are also making good use of the benefits of this modern technology. The 3D printing root that the Singapore houses are developing is one of the clear proofs for this.

However, this is not the first time 3D printing technology has been used by dentists in dentistry. Earlier, in 2015, Dutch researchers succeeded in creating 3D printed teeth with an antibacterial plastic that could kill harmful bacteria in the mouth.

The type of plastic used has a positively charged quaternary ammonium salt. Cell membranes that are negatively charged when exposed to it will be destroyed.

3D print teeth of Dutch scientists can kill harmful bacteria in the mouth.

"This material can kill bacteria in a way that is exposed, but at the same time it is also harmless to human cells , " Andreas Herrmann, a member of the research group at the University of Groningen, told New Scientist.

To test the effectiveness of antibacterial plastic, plastic samples are coated in a mixture of saliva and Streptococcus mutans, the main cause of tooth decay. The results show that up to 99% of bacteria are killed, while without plastic, 99% of bacteria survive.

The researchers say their applications not only stop at dentistry but also excel in other areas such as the manufacture of gaskets and plastic parts in orthopedic hips and knees, or fields. Non-medical areas such as food bags, water purification, even children's toys.
