Skype was again disguised as a fraud
SurfControl has just warned users about a phishing email phishing campaign that Skype has just begun to launch since late yesterday.
The emails that are written in Turkish in this phishing campaign encourage users to download a fake Skype software application through a link attached to the message.
If clicking on that link the user will be taken to a fake site that is the Turkish version of the official Skype website.
The fake Skype website contains a malicious news name "skypekur.exe". When users access it, it automatically executes and installs a password-stealing tool on the system. This tool has the ability to retrieve passwords from applications that send instant messages, FTP programs, email programs, etc. The password after being retrieved will be sent back to the scam master. this time.
SurfControl recommends that users be careful about unsolicited emails and should not click on the links associated with the emails. In addition, users should regularly update the installation of security patches for the operating system and update security applications.
