At first glance, no one could tell what kind of creature it was because it had no clear shape, just a black mass that wriggled and moved slowly. They even left a long trail of liquid where they passed.
According to the person who posted the clip, this is not actually a creature but hundreds of caterpillars gathered in one place and bustling around as if they were "marching" somewhere.
Destin, the creator of a YouTube series called Smarter Every Day, and Phil Torres, a conservation biologist, came across a similar phenomenon while exploring the Amazon rainforest. Destin later thought that the caterpillars crawled on each other in groups to move faster . Compared to crawling alone, crawling in groups would help the caterpillars travel a much farther distance in the same amount of time.
