This delay will provide an opportunity for engineers to investigate whether the object is threatening the safety of the ship, and have time to avoid bad weather in Florida, which is expected to land.
"The flight control group decided to keep the Atlantis ship for another 24 hours in orbit," a spokesman said. This means that until tomorrow, the ship will be allowed to land.
Atlantis returned to Earth after completing the mission to add giant solar cell wings to the International Space Station (ISS).
