Successful manufacture of beer bottles with paper

On October 12, Carlsberg brewery announced the journey to create the world's first paper beer bottle made from wood fibers of sustainable origin, based on 100% biological and fully recyclable.

Carlsberg has revealed two new research samples of the Green Fiber beer bottle , the first 'paper bottle' containing beer. Carlsberg also announced it has joined with other leading global companies, who are united in the vision of developing sustainable packaging through the advancement of paper bottle technology.

These developments are a continuation of Carlsberg's sustainable packaging innovation journey and are an important part of the brewers' sustainability program that is committing to a zero-reduction commitment to carbon emissions. at breweries and reduce carbon emissions by the entire chain by 2030.

The two new research samples are made from sustainable sourced wood fibers, fully recyclable and have an inner waterproofing layer to allow beer bottles to contain. One prototype uses a thin recycled polymer barrier 'fence' , the other uses a 100% biological PEF polymer film fence . These samples will be used until Carlsberg seeks a solution to achieve their ultimate ambition of a 100% bio-polymer-free bottle.

Carlsberg has started a project to develop bottles made of sustainable wood fiber together with EcoXpac experts, packaging company BillerudKorsnäs and researchers from the Technical University of Denmark, supported by the Innovation Fund.
