Sun announced Linux support code in Solaris

Picture 1 of Sun announced Linux support code in Solaris After nearly a year of delay, Sun has just released software that helps Solaris operating systems run Linux applications without modification.

The BrandZ software (formerly Project Janus) was released to the OpenSolaris community last week, helping to run operating systems such as FreeBSD or Apple's Darwin open source project.

Project Janus was drawn from Solaris 10 released earlier this year when Sun engineers found it would be better to redesign the software to interact with its new virtual technology - Solaris Zones.

Sun hopes to support BrandZ to other Linux distributors such as Red Hat and Novell.
