Super drought in the US: The lake surface is cracked, the bottom of the fish is dry, creating a surreal scene
Super Drought in the American West
The AP news agency (USA) said that the super-drought in the western United States is increasingly aggravated by climate change. Wildfire season has become longer, fires are more intense, temperatures are record-breaking and lakes are shrinking.
Low tide at Lake Mead National Recreation Area revealed two human skeletons and countless dried fish carcasses, and became a graveyard of forgotten and stranded ships.
Houseboats, sailboats and motorboats run aground, creating a surreal setting in a rugged desert landscape. A buoy that was once marked as a no-go area, lies in the mud, without a drop of water in sight. Even a sunken ship from World War II emerges at low tide.
Nature did not create this calm water paradise for fishing, camping or kayaking.
Falling water levels will not only have a negative impact on future water-dependent cities, but also on boaters who must navigate shallow waters, islands and sandbars. lurking below the surface.
Last month, Craig Miller was sailing his boat when the engine stalled and he swam to shore. Within days, the knee-deep water where his boat crashed was gone.
"It was amazing how quickly the water went down. My boat was surrounded by mud," - Craig Miller said.
He bought a pump and tried to dredge sand around the boat to create a canal, but failed. His work rescuing a stranded boat in shallow water was initially estimated at $4,000, but has since been raised to $20,000.
Meanwhile, many others flocked to the dry lake bed to take pictures.
The dry lake bottom looked like broken glass, the cracks inert in the hot sun. A school of dead fish is plugged into the lake, arranged in a circle.
As the sun sets west of Las Vegas, the light pierces the dry, hollow carcass of the fish, its mouth open as if it's trying to breathe.
