Tay Nghe An Biosphere Reserve, including Pu Mat National Park and two Pu Huong nature reserves, Pu Hoat covers an area of over one million hectares stretching across nine mountainous districts of Nghe An province, stretching near 500km, adjacent to Laos. This is a special biosphere reserve with many primeval forests, which have high ecological and environmental value and are considered the green corridors of Indochina.
It also retains primitive forests at altitudes of 1000-2000m, and has rare and precious species yet to be discovered, where the interference of northern and southern Truong Son fauna and flora. One of the most characteristic animal species discovered in Tay Nghe An Biosphere Reserve is Sao La (belonging to the hoof family) - which is highly concerned by the international conservation process.
So far, Vietnam has six UNESCO-recognized world biosphere reserves: Can Gio, Cat Tien, Red River Delta, Cat Ba, Kien Giang and Tay Nghe An.
Among the biosphere reserves recognized by UNESCO this time, 23 other biosphere reserves of Russia, China, Australia, Keyna, Italy, Sudan, Argentina, Palestine, Ghana and some other countries.
So far, UNESCO has recognized a total of 550 biodiversity conservation areas in 105 countries to prevent the disappearance of flora and fauna populations.
