Archaeologists have excavated the 2,000-year-old ruins in the town of Migdal, northern Israel. The town is said to have been built on the ground of the old town of Magdala, the birthplace of Mary Magdalene - one of the most devoted followers of Jesus.

Father Eamon Kelly, deputy embassy of the Notre Dame Institute of Jerusalem Center, said there is compelling evidence that Jesus had preached here.

"This is the first time a synagogue where Jesus once came and preached was excavated," Cha said. Father Kelly also added that although Jerusalem and Bethlehem are more related places to Jesus, Jesus actually spent 80% of his life in northern Israel.

Matthew's book in the Bible also mentions that Jesus set foot in Magdala. Also here, Jesus is said to have met Mary Magdalene.

Archaeologists have discovered a 120-square-meter main hall, with stone chairs set up at the feet of the walls. The cathedral may have been destroyed in about 67 or 68 AD by the Romans in their first battle with Jews.

Currently, there are still more than 48,500 square meters of unearthed area.
