The advantage of bald guy
Early hair loss can be good for men, the US scientists said after finding that bald guys at the age of 30 are less likely to get prostate cancer.
The team from Washington University School of Medicine (USA) investigated 2,000 men aged 40 to 47. Half of them suffered from prostate cancer.
At the age of 30, about 25-30% of men have lost their hair to some extent, and by the age of 50, half of them have significant baldness.Photo: BBC
Experts compared the rate of tumor growth in people who lost their hair early in their 30s, compared to those who did not.
Research results show that bald guys also reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 29% to 45%.
According to experts, baldness occurs when hair follicles expose too much to dihydrotestosterone - a chemical produced by the male hormone testoterone.
In other words, bald guys are also people with high levels of male hormones in the body, especially if baldness is hereditary.
If the result is accurate, the researchers say it will be useful in helping us better understand the reaction of the testoterone in the body.
Dr. Alison Ross, from the British Cancer Research Center believes that the link between baldness and prostate cancer is still unclear, because previous works have the opposite result to this.
