The amazing coincidence makes the Moon and the Sun not the same size but still obscuring each other

An unprecedented coincidence at any planet in the Universe.

An unprecedented coincidence at any planet in the Universe.

We have eclipse, the moon phenomenon passes between the Earth and the Sun, obscuring almost the whole Sun.

We also have (aka the moon), the phenomenon when the Earth intervenes in the space between the Sun and the Moon, making the Moon almost completely obscured.

Eclipse and Moonlight.

We know the size of the Sun is obviously larger than the Moon and, in fact, is the largest object in the Solar System. So why is it as small as the Moon that obscures the Sun? It is because of an amazing coincidence:

The Sun is 400 times larger than the Moon, and the Sun is also far from Earth with a distance of 400 times the distance between the Moon and the Earth. That's why the Moon and Sun are about the same size in the sky. It also explains why we sometimes get an almost perfect Moonlight event.

A few numbers to help you find:

Sun diameter = 1,391,016 km = a

Moon diameter = 3,474 km = b

a / b = 400.40 times

Distance from the Sun to Earth = 149,600,000 km = c

The distance of the Moon to Earth = 384,400 km = d

c / d = 389, 17 times

We have never seen such coincidence in any star system, as rare as having life on Earth that has not been found anywhere in the universe.
