German scientists have recently discovered that within the past half decade, the amount of oxygen in seawater has decreased by more than 2%. If this situation continues, marine species will face many dangers.

By 2100, the amount of oxygen in the sea water could be reduced by 1-7%.

Accordingly, experts from Helmholtz Ocean Research Center, Kiel, Germany conducted quantitative assessment of oxygen levels in seawater in the past 50 years. They found that sea components decreased by 4.8 petamoles, down to 222.5 petamoles.

Oxygen concentrations vary unevenly, depending on the depth in which the most significant decrease is in the depths below the ocean surface. The cause of this phenomenon is thought to be due to a decrease in dissolved oxygen in the water because the Earth heats up as well as a decrease in ventilation in deep water.

The change in oxygen content can affect the marine nutrient cycle as well as affect marine life and lead to huge losses for the fish industry and coastal economic forms.

According to the ocean model of scientists, by 2100, the amount of oxygen in the sea water can be reduced by 1-7%.
