Built on an area of 5 hectares and with an investment capital of nearly 9 million USD, Solar Juanilama , with 15,456 high-tech HIT photovoltaic panels (325 watt capacity / plate), will ensure the power supply for 2,100 households, in addition to reducing emissions of 1,500 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, contribute to clean up the environment in this Central American country.
In recent years, Costa Rica has effectively developed renewable energy sources. According to the Costa Rica Electricity Institute (ICE), in the first 3 months of this year, the country's clean energy source has met 99.06% of electricity consumption in the country, of which hydroelectricity accounts for 69.3%. , wind power (16.2%) and geothermal (11.2%).
ICE data show that up to 98% of electricity consumption in Costa Rica in 2016, the second year in a row, comes from renewable energy sources. Total electricity output in 2016 reached 10,778 GWh. From June 2016, Costa Rica suspended the operation of all coal-fired thermal power plants nationwide.
