The body of an ancient ship dating back to 700 BC (2,700 years ago) has just been found in Malta's waters.

This is probably the oldest ship ever found in the Mediterranean.

Malta Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said on August 25 that the wreck is located about 1.6 km from the coast of Gozo (the second largest island of Malta), at a depth of 120m under the sea.

Researcher Timothy Gambin of the University of Malta said divers had found many artifacts on the ship, including 50 jars and 20 grindstones.

The search at the shipwreck continues. Experts hope to find ship parts and other artifacts under the sand in the seabed. They assumed that the ship might be sailing in the sea between Sicily and Malta when it sank.

According to Telegraph, the French National Research Agency and Texas A&M University (USA) also participated in the search and research of this ship.

The Phenicia is an ancient civilization located in the ancient Canaan area, with the center located along modern Lebanon Strait, Syria and northern Israel.

This civilization relies on maritime trade throughout the Mediterranean during the period from 1550 BC to 300 BC.

The Phoenicians often traded by means of galleons, a large boat that used human power to move.
