The 10-year-old boy had to wear a big helmet, protective clothing and gloves whenever he went out on a sunny day.

He suffers from a disease called Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a disorder of the gene that causes the skin to become unaffected under ultraviolet rays. David Middleton is extremely sensitive to the sun's rays, just a few minutes of direct sun exposure, his skin will be swollen in pain.

Therefore, he had to apply a 50-factor sunscreen every 2 hours - even when indoors - for the rest of his life, DailyMail said.

The boy now lives with his mother, stepfather and sister in Worcestshire, England. Their windows are covered with a special UV-protective film.

Despite such inconveniences, David was as innocent as any boy at this age. "All the boys in the class want to be like David - he is the only child in the school to wear a travel suit all day," said his stepfather, a health worker.

His mother called her son "small owl". "We can't wait until the winter, when it gets dark sooner so the boy can go out on his foot cart, and run and run without a fancy suit. Some people may be bored in Winter, but David is the happiest person you've ever seen, it's like a little owl. "
