The Cuban Ministry of Health introduced new drugs to treat skin cancer

On March 3, the Cuban Ministry of Health announced that it has begun to introduce a new anti-cancer drug called Heberferon, which is produced by the country, treating 800 patients across the country.

Talking to the Cuban News Agency (ACN), PhD student Iraldo Bello of the Center for Genetics and Biotechnology (CIGB), said Heberferon was synthesized by scientists from the protein Interferon alpha and Interferon gamma . Doctor affirmed that the formula of this type of brand name is unique in the world.

This injectable drug is capable of eradicating or reducing tumors in the skin that do not belong to melanoma cells, thus avoiding having to perform surgery in complex locations such as facial skin.

Mr. Bello confirmed that the use of Heberferon in the treatment of skin cancer is showing positive results, while combining with chemotherapy or radiotherapy depending on the size of the skin lesion.

The biologist also added that Heberferon is currently in the country to be applied to basal cell carcinoma .

In addition, this drug is also being studied for use in the treatment of brain tumors and kidney cancer.

By the end of 2017, this product will be widely available throughout the provinces and cities of the country.

Cuba is a country with a high rate of skin cancer, mainly due to excessive sun exposure leading to ultraviolet radiation. CIGB is also the manufacturer of two other famous products of the Cuban biopharmaceutical industry, the only lung cancer vaccine in the world CIMAvax EGF and the anti-diabetic Heberprot B which leads to the removal of the limbs.
