The situation of global warming may cause serious damage to the transportation network in the future, for example when hot weather and storms occur frequently, the demand for transportation and freight will decrease in almost all transportation routes, including roads, airways, waterways and railways.

The report of the US National Research Council pointed out five threats to climate change:

- A lot of heat waves appeared, causing the demand for travel to decrease, the temperature increased, causing the bridges to be damaged by the joints between the spans and the railway tracks were also deformed.

- High sea level rise and heavy rains will cause flooding in airports and roads (iron, ministries, subway) and erode piers due to rapid flooding.

- More rainstorms delay air traffic and roads, tunnels and railways are flooded, while bridges, roads and piping support systems (oil) are corroded.

- More severe storms occur which hinder air and waterway transport services, destroy houses and spill debris into the road.

- Increasing temperature in the Arctic will cause ice to melt, submerge the roads and potentially damage oil and gas pipelines.

Not only that, the hot and dry weather makes the water level in the rivers low, reducing the ability to transport by boats. Meanwhile, the heat waves will increase the number of forest fires, which can destroy transport infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the report said that sea traffic could benefit from climate change because the Arctic waters are expanding. Meanwhile, shorter new freight routes will be formed, reducing transportation time and costs.
