Shining colors appear in Xinjiang, China

According to experts, the cloud may be the result of noctilucent clouds (NLC) or from a rocket launch in Gansu, IB Times reported yesterday.

Noctilucent clouds often float in the horizon and glow in different colors. A spokeswoman for the British Royal Meteorological Association said that the cloud in China is most likely the glowing cloud, but they need more information about the location and weather conditions to confirm the conclusion.

Noctilucent clouds are ice crystals floating in the sky, about 80km from the ground. They are the highest clouds in the Earth's atmosphere and are quite faint, so it's hard to see. They only form under certain conditions and are not fully understood because there are no records of them before 1885.

Ice crystals reflect light before the Sun rises at the horizon. The shape of noctilucent clouds changes with the wind speed at different heights. Low-altitude crystals are often red in color due to dust and water in the atmosphere, as opposed to blue crystals with blue light.

According to meteorologist Alan Hisscott, the photos were taken before dawn in the east of Tan Nguyen District, near the Tzuquan Rocket Launching Center in Gansu.

"Rocket smoke will save the products of combustion including water evaporation. The condensed steam creates ice crystals of clouds, like streaks of condensation behind the plane. At the beginning of these tracks almost upright but wind at different heights made them deformed , " Hisscott said.

"The cloud reaches a height like the cloudy sky, illuminated by the sun above and below the horizon in the same way that the glowing cloudy sky in the dark sky. The orange color of the cloud can come from the process. the spread of sunlight while the iridescent colors in some parts are caused by diffraction in small particles of water or ice , " Hisscott said.
