Salar de Uyuni is an arid salt lake located in the southern part of the Altiplano desert of Bolivia.
It is simply called Uyuni salt field because it covers an area of up to 10,500 km2.
This is considered the largest salt field on the planet.
Uyuni is located on an altitude of 3,650m above sea level.
This is a natural salt copper formed by the movement of the earth's crust.During the winter months, the area is completely dry.
However, when the summer brought rain, the flooded field turned into a giant mirror seen by astronaut Neil Amstrong from the moon in 1969.
40,000 years ago, the salt lake was part of Lake Minchin.Over the years, the lake became dry and divided into two small lakes called Poopo and Uru Uru, two salt lakes Salar de Uyuni and Coipasa.
According to experts, salt reserves in these two lakes are about 10 billion tons.Every year the Bolivian people exploit 25,000 tons here
In recent years, the beauty of salt lake has attracted many travel lovers. So in parallel with the salt mining areas, many resorts have sprung up.
In addition, Salar de Uyuni salt lake is also a perfect place to test satellite remote sensing systems in orbit because the air here is very dry and the sky is always clear.
There are also special hotels built with salt, with tables, chairs and salt beds.
