A species of rod beetle, scientific name Phobaeticus chani, has been identified by famous scientists in the United Kingdom and the United States as the longest insect in the world.
The specimen was discovered by a villager on Borneo Island and given to Malaysian amateur naturalist Datuk Chan Chew Lun in 1989.
However, until the middle of this month, the new Phobaeticus chani was officially introduced in the science magazine Zootaxa.
With the appearance of a thin piece of bamboo, the rod beetle with a dark green color is about 55.88 cm long. Only the body (35.56 cm), this bug has surpassed the old record of the Phobaeticus kirbyi, also found in Borneo, at about 2.54 cm.
