The man shocked with the tiny brain

Instead of a normal brain, a bag filled most of the skull, but this man made the doctors wonder that he still lived perfectly normal, despite his condition.

Instead of a normal brain, a bag filled most of the skull, but this man made the doctors wonder that he still lived perfectly normal, despite his condition.

The brain scan of a 44-year-old man revealed a large fluid cavity that took up most of his skull, leaving only a thin layer of real brain tissue.

"It is hard to say exactly how much of the brain has lost its area, because we do not use software to measure its volume. But with the naked eye, the brain has lost 50 to 70% , " Lionel said. Feuillet, a neurologist at the Mediterranean University in Marseille, France, said.

Feuillet and colleagues described the case in The Lancet. It was a father with two children, a public servant.

He went to the hospital after a slight pain in his left leg. When Feuillet employees began to learn about his medical history, they realized that when he was born, the man was plugged into the head to suck water from the brain (a hydrocephalus).

The circuit was then discarded at the age of 14. However, the researchers decided to re-examine the state of the brain by CT scans and MRI magnetic resonance techniques. They were amazed at the " big gap " in the side of the ventricle.

Intelligence tests show that this man has an IQ of 75, which is lower than the 100 average, but not in developmental or disability.

The findings suggest that "the brain is very flexible and can adapt to several injuries that occur during the pre-natal and postpartum periods, when properly treated".
