The moon has three types of water

The results of the American scientific analysis show that three types of water exist on the moon, including nearly pure ice crystals.

For decades, scientists have always thought the moon has no water. However, the flight of the Chandrayaan-1 (India) and the missile launch on the moon last year in the United States proved it was a wrong thought. Chandrayaan-1 detects 40 holes on the moon containing frozen water at a depth of about 2 m above the surface. Experts of the US Aeronautics Agency (NASA) also discovered the existence of a large amount of water on the moon after using rockets to find water on October 9, 2009.

"We found three types of water on the moon," Paul Spudis, a scientist from the American Institute of Moon and Planet Research, told Space.

Spudis says three types of water include: almost pure ice; ice and soil crystal mixes; Ice crystals mixed with compounds such as methanol (CH ₃ OH), sulfide dioxide (SO ₂ ), diacetylene (H ₂ C ₄ ).

According to Space, researchers do not understand why some of the moons on the moon contain pure ice, while others contain mixtures of soil and ice. They claim that water on the moon is probably born from more than one source.

"Part of the water can be created right on the moon because the proton in the solar wind can interact with metal oxides in the rock. But water can also reach the moon from other places in the solar system." Spudis explained.
