The most unique river in the world: Filled with precious things only when the flood water recedes will appear more

In Canada's smallest and most remote federal territory - the Yukon there is a river called the Klondike. Just scooping up a few ladles of water in this river can change many people's lives.

Thanks to the Klondike River, many people have taken a life-changing step when coming here to seek luck. What does this river contain that so many people have worked so hard to find?

From a coincidence

The story begins on August 16, 1896, when Skookum Jim Mason, Dawson Charlie and George Washington Carmack stumbled upon gold in a tributary of the Klondike River. Initially, they received a hint from Robert Henderson, a Canadian gold prospector, and began their search. Where they started was Rabbit Creek, one of the tributaries of the Klondike.

From an accident, an American citizen discovered gold in the Klondike River

Immediately after discovering gold in the Klondike River, George Washington Carmack immediately outlined four zones and claimed mining rights. Includes 2 zones for himself and 1 zone for Jim Mason and 1 zone for Dawson Charlie. The mining rights claim areas were registered at the police station at the mouth of the Fortymile River. The news quickly spread to other mining camps.

Towards the end of August of the same year, another miner found gold in one of the creeks that emptied into Bonanza and discovered a new source of gold there. As it turned out, at the bottom of the Klondike River there was a lot of gold dust, gold nuggets and even bullion. The strange thing is, after each annual rainy season, the amount of gold appearing in the river has many mutations.

The reason is because floods have washed away the rocks in the river bed and in the dry season, people can clearly see gold on the river's surface. Therefore, many gold diggers often return to the river after the rainy season. They believe that water brought gold.

Therefore, many people come here to make a living despite the extremely harsh weather and roads. Some people have become millionaires by luck. For his part, George Washington Carmack became rich thanks to his discovery, he left the Yukon with $1 million worth of gold.

After the news was spread, a large number of people looking for gold flocked to the Klondike River area

Some time later, the areas claiming gold mining "bloomed" significantly. To reach the gold mines, the prospector must pass through the port of Dyea in southeastern Alaska. Then go along Chilkoot Road to the Yukon River and take a boat to the Klondike River.

Many miners have chosen to buy and sell occupied lands, spend huge sums of money and rent them out. On July 14, 1897, the steamship Excelsior entered the port of San Francisco. Anyone who has golden sand in hand can sell it immediately to collect money. The minimum amount of money is 5,000 USD and the maximum is 130,000 USD. If calculated at today's prices, the person who earns at least has up to 100,000 USD in his pocket.

Many towns have sprung up along the Klondike River gold mining routes. Initially, the population at the confluence of the Klondike and Yukon rivers from 500 people, but after only 3 years, the number of people living here has reached 30,000 people. Two theaters, a music store and 28 pubs have been opened here

In its heyday, the population of gold-digging towns amounted to 200,000, equivalent to the population of a small to medium-sized city in Canada. According to data provided in 1950, since the discovery of gold in the river, the value of the gold that people have dug has reached 6.8 billion USD.

Long lines of people to register to mine gold at Klondike.

However, due to the uneven distribution of gold and the difficulty of mining by miners due to the permafrost. As a result, many people have begun to leave the Klondike River in search of new gold mines. After that, the gold in the Klondike River was no longer periodically mined as it used to be.

But few people know that the amount of gold at the bottom of the Klondike River has never been exhausted. Today, about 200 small gold mines still operate in this area. Beneath the riverbed, thanks to modern machines, surveyors have discovered gold and a large amount of other minerals. Many precious metals have been found at the banks of the Klondike River. The Canadian government has banned people coming here from bringing in any metal other than gold.

Previous gold mining areas have been developed by the Canadian government as a tourist destination. Visitors here can freely search for gold but only within certain limits.

The river has an extraordinary origin

The Klondike River is actually part of the Yukon River that originates in the North Pole. The Klondike River has only one flow, it flows down from the Ogilivie Mountains and empties into the Yukon River in Dawson City. The water of the Klondike River, although it comes from the North Pole, is not cold, but very cool. Its total length is up to 30 km.

The two banks of the Klondike River are also very beautiful with lush vegetation. The climate is mild all year round, so this area can be considered as a precious free ecological reserve of Canada. Therefore, every year, a large number of tourists still come here.

Its name is derived from the word Hän (which is a language of the people living along the river) and means rock. In writer Jack London's story titled "A Relic of the Pliocen", this river is referred to as the "River of Reindeer".

In 1984, the Gold Pan Women's World Cup was held in Dawson City. Since that contest, a gold panning contest for both women and men is held in this area every July.
