Over the past 100 years, there has existed a mysterious floating tree in the Crater Lake (Oregon, USA). This trunk is 9.1m high, rising from the water surface of 1.2m, about 60cm in diameter, known by the people as "The Old Man of the Lake" ("Old Man of the Lake").

In 1902, for the first time, someone discovered the Old Man's trunk on Lake Crater. This is the 9th deepest lake in the world, so the Old Man's trunk certainly cannot touch the bottom of the lake. Since then, people around Lake Crater gradually weave mysterious stories about old tree trunk.

In 1988, scientists controlled a small submarine diving deep into the lake to learn about the Old Man's trunk and its mysterious activities. They concluded that the Old Man was a maritime hazard and pulled the trunk to anchor to Wizard Island.

However, according to the people, as soon as the scientists pulled the trunk away, the sky immediately swirled with dark clouds, signaling a storm. Immediately, scientists must "drop" the old man. And dark clouds also disappeared afterwards.

It is believed that this trunk came out of a volcanic landslide, similar to the case of trees on Spirit Lake near Helens volcano after being bounced off the ground from a volcanic eruption in 1980.

However, the stems will usually only float for a few years, then sink or decay. As for the trunk, the old man, after hundreds of years, was still able to stand still without being attacked or broken by the waves.

After hundreds of years of immersion in the lake, the stem grows only moss, not decayed.

To explain this, a scientist hypothesized that because the lake water was so cold, the stem was well preserved, and due to the proportion of the submerged part of the stem compared to the floating part, it came to so the trunk is not sunk but still stands up continuously.

There is no official explanation for this mysterious phenomenon. But the tourists who came to Oregon have long considered Lake Crater and Old Man's trunk to be an interesting visit. They claim that the Old Man's trunk is a character, a historical witness attached to Lake Crater.
