The password includes more than 200 special characters, making early historians throughout the centuries. Researchers say that decoding achievements are important because it can help discover many other inexplicable letters of King Ferdinand.

The letters between Ferdinand and General Gonzalo de Córdoba included many strategic instructions relating to Spanish military campaigns in Naples in the early 16th century, located in a prolonged battle between the kingdom and France to win control of the Mediterranean. Spain took control of Naples in 1504 and occupied the area until 1647.

At that time, the king's letters took 15 days to reach General Córdoba in southeastern Italy. In this situation, cryptography is a useful tool to keep instructions hidden in case the letter falls into enemy hands throughout the long journey.

After documents including some 20-page documents appeared in the gallery at the Spanish Military Museum in Toledo, experts from the National Intelligence Center (CNI) were asked to award code. After nearly 6 months of scrutinizing the letters from 1502 to 1506, they finally deciphered successfully.
