Local authorities say that since late July there have been nearly 500 dead birds at Lake Charhan Nur in Wushanqi area.

Local people affirmed the death of birds involved in the problem of environmental pollution when a nearby chemical company secretly discharged waste into the lake. However, the company has already denied it. It was this that sparked a heated debate between the locals and the government.

To reassure people, the local government decided to conduct a water sample test to determine the cause of death. Accordingly, the water in the lake is not contaminated and the dead birds are caused by Pasteurella infection .

"Pasteurella infection is quite common among birds. The main source of transmission may come from residual birds. This phenomenon happened in 2009 when more than 2,000 birds died that year" - Wu Cuilan, Director of Animal Health in Wushanqi, said.

The title has been changed.
