The strange behavior of a newly discovered squid species is extremely small, only 1cm

Scientists have recently discovered two species of dwarf squid, only about 1cm in size, living in Japanese coral reefs. These two new species bring the total number of known pygmy squid species to eight, living in different areas of the Pacific Ocean.

Recently, scientists have discovered two species of microscopic dwarf squid named Kodama and Ryukyuan in Japan, with the scientific name Hannan.

The Kodama jujutsu species is only about 1 cm long

Dwarf squid are members of the Idiosepiidae family and have the smallest legs and heads in the ocean

They are not easy to detect because they are extremely small and active at night

Ryukyuan pygmy squid (Idiosepius kijimuna) discovered in seagrass meadows around the southern Japanese archipelago

This species often hangs on trees, their favorite food is mainly shrimp that are much larger than them

They also have a very interesting way of hunting, just sitting still and waiting for the shrimp to drift into range and then catch them

Scientists have observed pygmy squids breeding in captivity, and they have very different behavior

When newly hatched, the young are relatively large in size and can hunt shrimp immediately. They only live two or three months. These two new species bring the total number of known pygmy squid species to eight, living in different areas of the Pacific Ocean.
