A huge shipyard recently discovered in Dana Island, Silifke County, Mersin Province, Turkey, and the Hurriyet Daily News reported on October 20.

This ancient shipyard was discovered by an archaeological group during excavations on the coast of Mersin since 2015.

"We were surprised to find many slip banks to launch ships in the north of the island in 2015. Recently, we continued to excavate a huge shipyard, which could simultaneously close 274 ships. This is the only shipyard in the world that can do this . This may be the oldest shipyard in the world , operating around 1,200 BC " , Hakan Öniz, head of the Department of Investigation Ancient under the Ocean, Selçuk University, Turkey, commented.

Experts believe that the giant shipyard can provide information about the "dark age" of the Mediterranean, about more than 1,000 BC years. Scientists have very little archaeological information about this 400-year period.
