A resident of Virginia, USA, saw a tsunami-like cloud rushing over the top of the mountain like a picture in Van Gogh's masterpiece.

Amy Hunter caught sight of a scene that looked like a surreal painting when looking up at the sky above Mount Smith in Virginia state, USA, yesterday. Each rolling cloud ripples like a tsunami that strikes in the sky. The cloud formed the perfect wave shape, as if there was a sea of ​​water in the air.

Hunter took a picture of the strange cloud and shared it on the Facebook page dedicated to posting Smith mountain photos. Most network users comment that they have never seen this phenomenon. It is Kelvin-Helmholtz wave , which occurs when velocity distortion appears in a continuous liquid, or when there is a speed difference through the interface between the two liquids.

An example of the Kelvin-Helmholtz wave is the wind that blows on the water surface, the wind causes a relative movement between stratified layers of water and air. Instability will manifest in the waveform created on the surface of the water. These waves can appear in many different liquids and atmosphere.

The Hunter cloud sees the result when two layers of air with different densities move at different speeds. They met in another class and became unsustainable due to speed changes. The above motion forms a swirling wave pattern.
