The Untold Secret Behind Visits to the Titanic Wreck

Death is mentioned three times in the disclaimer, and in the event of a Titan submersible failure, rescue plans are not easy.

On June 19, the Titan submersible carrying five people, including a pilot and four tourists, went missing in the Atlantic Ocean while diving to explore the wreck of the Titanic submarine. One of the passengers was British billionaire Hamish Harding.

The ship lost contact about 1 hour and 45 minutes after diving.

The story of the Titan ship disappearing while carrying tourists to visit the Titanic wreckage has captured the world's attention. Behind these adventurous trips there are always secrets that only insiders know.

Death is mentioned three times.

Famous American film producer Mike Reiss has had three expeditions with the company OceanGate, which specializes in providing tours to visit the Titanic wreck, revealing: "In the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, we are completely isolated and almost always lose contact with the outside world."

Last year, he himself dived on the missing ship Titan on June 19 during a tour of the Titanic wreck.

According to Mike Reiss, everyone is well aware of the dangers involved when taking a tour to visit the Titanic wreck.

" You have to sign a waiver before diving and death is mentioned three times on page one . This is not a vacation, there are always dangers," he said .

" Once we got down to the Titanic wreck (about 3,800 meters deep), all navigational devices, positioning systems, and compasses were almost useless.

"The tour group on the submersibles were wandering around blindly, knowing that the Titanic was somewhere out there," Mike Reiss recalled , "but it was so dark that even though the Titanic was only 500 meters from the submersibles, it took us 90 minutes to find it."

Is the Titan ship easy to rescue in case of an accident?

Unlike a submarine that can enter and exit ports under its own power, the Titan is a submersible about 6 meters long and weighing 9 tons, and it depends on a support ship to transport it to a location before diving.

This ship uses a water tank system to be able to dive and surface combined with 4 electric propulsion engines, allowing it to float to move on the seabed.

Due to the physics of water, especially at great depths like those found in the Titanic wreck site, technologies we normally use on land and even in space such as satellite communications or GPS navigation would not work.

The Titan communicates with support vessels using acoustic systems that send "pings" back and forth to provide location. Communication will be very limited from the Titan to the support vessel if the submersible is in inappropriate range.

Specifically, communication would be interrupted if Titan were not upright or if it were entangled with the Titanic wreckage on the seabed.

In case the Titan ship is at the bottom of the ocean, the rescue work will be very difficult.
