The world's smallest fish
At 7.9 mm in adulthood, a "carp" named Paedocypris progenetica recently discovered in Sumatra (Indonesia) has become the world's smallest vertebrate according to the announcement. "Proceedings of the Royal Society: Biological Sciences" by the UK on January 25.
This fish is transparent and the skull is very primitive, making the fish brain exposed. Scientists claim that when fully grown, the Paedocypris fish can reach 10.3 mm for females and 11.4 mm for males.
In addition, a species of the same species, " Paedocypris micromethes ", which is slightly larger in size than 8.8 mm, was identified in Sarawak (one of the Malaysian territories in Borneo). These fishes are particularly suitable in swampy swamp forests with extremely strong acidity.
Previously, the record of the world's smallest vertebrate belongs to the Indian dwarf white goby species (Trimmatom nanus scientific name) of 8 mm in size.
