The year is not over yet, but the 2024 storm season is already full of records, every storm seems to be 'fast-charged'
It's only the last month of the year, but the 2024 hurricane season has been an unusual one so far, with many records and many things.
Although it is only the last month of the year, the 2024 storm season has been an unusual storm season so far, with many records and "unprecedented" things . One of them is that almost every storm seems to be "quickly charged", suddenly increasing in intensity, and causing great destruction.
Record-high ocean temperatures have created more and stronger hurricanes around the world during the 2024 hurricane season so far.
Nearly all Atlantic hurricanes in the 2024 hurricane season are expected to be stronger than they have been in the past (compared to averages at corresponding times over the years), according to an analysis by the nonprofit climate research group Climate Central. Specifically, the winds of all 11 major Atlantic hurricanes this season are 15 to 45 km/h (9 to 28 mph) higher than the historical average.

The typhoon season in the Northwest Pacific (where typhoons can easily affect East Asia and Southeast Asia, including our country) is equally strange with many records. Among them, super typhoon Yagi is the strongest typhoon in the East Sea in 30 years, causing heavy damage in many Southeast Asian countries. Shanghai (China) suffered the strongest typhoon in 70 years (typhoon Bebinca, making landfall on September 16). Then a very rare thing happened: there were 4 separate typhoons operating simultaneously in the West Pacific at the beginning of this month . Meanwhile, the Philippines was affected by 6 typhoons in just one month , all of which were strong, of which 5 made direct landfall.

Nine of the 11 major Atlantic hurricanes in the 2024 season have intensified into hurricanes, a rare occurrence. Hurricane Milton increased its winds by 95 mph (152 km/h) in just 24 hours, faster than any other storm in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
In the Northwest Pacific, this year's typhoon season also saw a series of storms that suddenly intensified, such as Gaemi, Yagi, Usagi, Man-yi.
According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), at least 90% of the warming of the Earth (caused by humans) in the past few decades has occurred in the oceans. Hurricanes are 'charged' by this energy source , causing them to intensify rapidly and become stronger. So it can be understood that humans contribute to the strengthening of hurricanes.

Of course, there are other factors that cause ocean temperatures to change, but climate experts say one thing is certain: As global temperatures continue to rise, the likelihood of stronger and more destructive hurricanes will increase, and by a lot.
