Two species of horse bats about to become extinct
Large horse bats and Thai horse bats are in danger of extinction because currently the only place to find them is the area of Mahatup pagoda, ward 3, Soc Trang town with about 2,000 children, of which large horse bats remain over 20 individuals.
This is the survey result in Soc Trang by Columbia University (USA) and Vietnam Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources. According to the survey, two years ago, two species of bats belong to the group of the largest bat species in the world. They reside quite a lot in two pagodas and protection forest area in An Thanh Nam commune, Cu Lao Dung district (Soc Trang). .
Mr. Tran Trong Khiem - Soc Trang Forest Protection Department - said recently in Soc Trang province, there are many people specializing in catching bats and some selling porridge with prices from 200,000-300,000 VND / head (about 1kg). This is the cause of the precious bats in Soc Trang in danger of extinction.
