Among healthy pregnant women, those who practice underwater once a week are less likely to suffer from back pain and less work than those who practice on the weekly basis.
More than a third of women suffer from back pain during pregnancy, increasing the risk of back pain even after childbirth, Swedish researchers said.
To compare the effect of underwater and onshore exercise in reducing back and pelvic pain in pregnant women, researchers studied 390 healthy pregnant women practicing either form, once a week. .
The exercises are specially designed for pregnant women, including 45 minutes of exercise and 15 minutes of relaxation. Women start exercising at the 19th week of pregnancy.
The results show that underwater fetuses are less likely to suffer from back pain than those who practice terrestrial exercise, and while no one is trained to stay sick due to back pain, then six women on the ground must do so.
"Pregnant women should be encouraged to continue their physical exercises for as long as possible. Water exercise is both simple and inexpensive," the researchers said.
