Unexpectedly found fossil ancient sea monsters when exploiting gems

Instead of discovering shiny and expensive gems, the operators discovered fossils of an ancient sea monster . Enchanted Design Limited is the company that found mosasaur.

The ancient sea monster was discovered as the almost complete skeleton of a sea reptile called mosasaur , possibly belonging to the genus Tylosaurus , lived during the dinosaur era, about 70 million years ago.

During that time, Alberta, Canada (where mosasaur was found) was underwater, stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Sea.

"We have everything from start to finish , " said Donald Henderson, who is in charge of dinosaur fossils at the Tyrrell Royal Archaeological Museum in Drumheller, Alberta.

The fossils embedded in black slate are quite soft, so the skeleton is nearly perfect. The animal is 6 to 7m long.

Mosasaur is the top predator of ancient times. However, they are reptiles, not dinosaurs. Fossil detection of the mosasaur stomach and other fossil bites indicate that these animals feed on turtles, fish, ammonite and even other mosasaurs. One of their secret weapons is the arched teeth on the back.

It is still unclear when the mosasaur fossils will be displayed. But the public can see other mosasaur specimens in the Dinosaur Hall of the Royal Tyrrell Museum.
