Urgent prevention of A-H5N1 flu

On the afternoon of August 2, at the National Steering Committee meeting on human flu prevention, Deputy Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan said that avian influenza epidemic in poultry and people is having complicated developments in neighboring countries and in the area.

Although Vietnam has not detected any cases infected with influenza A - H5N1 but not subjective. According to Mr. Huan, the follow-up of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology shows that in 2006, influenza B is showing signs of strong development, but influenza A virus has decreased. It is very likely that influenza A and B will join together and become pandemic in the winter-spring.

On the same day, the Minister of Health announced the urgent measures to strengthen prevention of influenza A H5N1. The Minister requested the Steering Committee for Influenza Prevention and Control at all levels to closely supervise, detect outbreaks early, take timely measures to handle; strictly control the import, purchase and sale of poultry products at border gates .
