Use Ometar to develop sustainable agriculture

In the autumn-winter rice crop this year, farmers in 3 districts of Cau Ke, Tra Cu and Chau Thanh (Tra Vinh) are very happy because they have applied Ometar biological products to control the epidemic of brown backed rice plant hoppers and reduce them. cost 10 times more than chemical spraying.

This product is produced by their own hands with the guidance of scientists from the Department of Biological Prevention of the Mekong Delta Rice Institute.

Farmers Nguyen Van Huan, living in Hamlet 3, Phong Thanh Commune, Cau Ke District (Tra Vinh), excitedly said that he was one of the farmers in Cau Ke District who was selected for the Ometar inoculant production model. to prevent brown backed rice plant hoppers.

With 2ha of rice produced in the autumn-winter crop this year, he only spent 160,000 VND to produce Ometar inoculants but controlled the BPH, well-developed rice is currently preparing to harvest. Meanwhile, if he uses chemical drugs at least 1.5 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Chairman of the Rice Production Club of Hamlet 3, Phong Thanh Commune, assessed that the effectiveness of Ometar preparations was confirmed when 10 members of the club participated in producing 4 ha of rice by tissue. experimental picture; resulting in a 10-fold reduction in the cost of insecticides compared to the use of chemical pesticides; not polluting the environment, not destroying natural enemies.

In particular, Ometar preparations used to control brown backed rice plant hoppers are very good because they do not affect rice yield. In the meantime, if the brown rice plant has a brown backed rice plant hopper, it will affect the pollination of the grain, causing a lot of grain and reduce yield.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hong Anh, Head of Science-Technology Department of Tra Vinh Department of Science and Technology, said that the Department was approved by the People's Committee of Tra Vinh Province 'Research on building a model of application of birth preparations Ometar study on rice BPH prevention and transfer of rapid production process of Ometar bio-pesticide in household size in Tra Vinh province '.

This project is currently being piloted in 3 districts: Cau Ke, Tra Cu and Chau Thanh - representing 3 different ecological sub-regions. In Cau Ke district, it was carried out on high-yield rice, Tra Cu district on the rice crop and Chau Thanh district on the rice-shrimp area, in the end of 2010.

Especially Ometar probiotics have a very good impact on rice-shrimp production land. At present, two key rice-shrimp communes, Long Hoa and Hoa Minh (Chau Thanh district), have been transferred the process of quick production of Ometar bio-pesticide in household scale.

Local officials and farmers of the two communes of Long Hoa and Hoa Minh were very excited to receive the 'quick production process of Ometar bio-pesticide on farm scale' because the rice-shrimp model cannot be used. Chemical drugs. Particularly, 25 ha of rice-shrimp of Long Hoa and Hoa Minh communes are currently applying Ometar bio-product, after spraying the first phase, when 40-day-old rice has controlled brown plant hopper so far and rice is making seeds.

After many years of research and selection, Dr. Nguyen Thi Loc, Head of the Department of Biological Control of the Mekong Delta Rice Institute and colleagues, has studied and successfully applied two effective green and white fungal strains. prevention of pests for plants and brown plant hoppers.

From the blue fungus and white fungus, Dr. Nguyen Thi Loc has produced two biological products, Ometar (green mushroom) and Biovip (white mushroom), widely used for insecticides and pests of rice in Can Tho and An Giang. , Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Tien Giang .

Inoculants have a long-lasting effect, the drug has the effect of spreading pathogens from the dead psyllid to the newly hatched aphids in a rice crop, so only one spray can effectively maintain the pest for the whole season. At the milky stage, Ometar can be sprayed once to eliminate stink bugs if rice is attacked by bugs. Ometar preparations are also used to eliminate coconut beetles.

According to calculations, the cost of producing 100 packages of Ometar preparations according to farm size only costs 752,100 VND (if minus losses with the maximum incidence rate of 10%, the remaining 90 packages), so 1 pack of 500 g cost VND 8,400, 1 ha uses 5 packages of VND 42,000 / time.

A double crop of rice farmers only costs 84,000 VND / ha, a lot less than chemical pesticide to kill brown plant hopper. Particularly for 6 communes of 3 districts in Tra Vinh, farmers produce Ometar inoculants themselves, so the rate of contamination is very small (1-5%), so the actual cost in the province is only nearly 40,000 VND / ha for 1 spray, but great effect on crops.
