Use solar power with high technology

ComEd (USA) will launch a pilot solar installation program for customers in May. They will be providing high-tech equipment to manage electrical usage, billing, web application.

The company will install solar panels and some auxiliary equipment in 100 homes. Customers also have a special meter that can measure and report the amount of electricity consumed as well as the amount that customers pay hourly.

In addition, these meters "reward" customers for generating excess energy and this amount of energy will be "pumped" back to the grid.

The pilot program is funded by the US Department of Energy (US $ 5 million). ComEd and some solar technology companies like Gridpoint contributed $ 3 million.

About 3,100 ComEd customers will receive a device detailing their electricity usage and billing.
