He is conducting a project to turn volcanic heat into Ireland into electricity. Geothermal energy will be directed to the UK through a long underwater cable system of about 1000km. This is considered the longest cable system in the world today. This cost is expected to be no more expensive than the cost of producing nuclear power.
Landsvirkjun Energy Company director of Ireland, Mr. Hörður Arnarson will be the supervisor of this project. According to him, the project will be completed in 2020. He shared with the Times that this is a technically challenging project but very feasible. Both the length and depth of the cable system have been surveyed.
The British Energy Secretary, Charles Henry, said the project would keep consumer electricity prices low, even if it was windy, making wind farms impossible to operate. The British government also signed a preliminary agreement with Ireland showing interest in this project.
