The authors of the book 'Van Gogh: The Life' , Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith, say that Van Gogh is more likely to be shot and killed by two familiar boys, contrary to what was previously known. The artist knows that these two boys possess a malfunctioning gun.
The authors have concluded after 10 years of research with more than 20 translators and researchers.
They said that thousands of Van Gogh's unpublished letters were among the documents studied to create a database containing 28,000 notes.

Van Gogh died in an inn in Auvers-sur-Oise, outside Paris, France in 1890 at the age of 37. It is believed that he shot himself in a wheat field before returning to the inn. where he died more than 30 hours later.
But author Steven Naifeh clearly stated that Van Gogh did not go to the field with the intention of suicide.'People who know Van Gogh think he was shot and killed by two boys and decided to protect them.'
Naifeh said the found information proved that hypothesis. They include a confirmation that the bullet entering Van Gogh's abdomen comes from a cross angle rather than a straight line as often happens in a suicide.
The authors believe that the bullet wound was killed by a 16-year-old boy named Rene Secretan. Secretan vacationed at a nearby villa and had a relationship with Van Gogh like buying drinks for fame and teasing him. Steven Naifeh said Van Gogh was murdered.
The authors affirmed that Van Gogh did not accuse Secretan of shooting himself because he was willing to die and did not want him to be punished.
Gregory White Smith says Van Gogh accepts death to reduce the burden on his brother. The brother of Van Gogh, The-o, then had to give him money because at that time Van Gogh could not sell the paintings.
