Video: Cat robots help search and rescue

Researchers at Lausanne Polytechnic University (EPFL), Switzerland, have successfully built a robot that can move quickly like cats.

According to researcher Alexander Sproewitz, their technology allows robots to run at speeds of 1.4m / sec. This is a relatively fast speed, though far behind the speed of the Cheetah robot (29km / h) produced by an American company.

Biological robot laboratory (Biorob) of EPFL - a unit that researches and manufactures cat robots, says it is not aiming to create 'super fast' robots but stable robots.

They also hope their research will encourage scientists to study more deeply in the field of biological engineering; and the technology of making cat robots can be used to build robots that help search and rescue victims of natural disasters and accidents.
