In the dawn of October 21, Vietnamese astronomers could observe Orionids meteor shower - a medium-sized meteor shower with about 20-30 meteors per hour.

According to Mr. Dang Vu Tuan Son, Chairman of Vietnam Young Astronomical Society (VACA), meteor shower Orionids usually lasts from October 2 to November 7 every year. However, in 2017, the peak of this phenomenon falls in the morning of October 21.

Orionids meteor shower usually lasts from October 2 to November 7 every year.

However, the peak time of this meteor shower in Vietnam is also the time when the Moon is near the Orion constellation. Therefore, observations will be hindered when the number of supernovae will be significantly reduced. It is estimated that there are only 10-15 stars per hour in areas where the weather and atmosphere are ideal and further reduced in places where air pollution is high.

Mr. Son said, the time period can observe this phenomenon from the middle of the night of October 20 to the time when the Sun rises on October 21.

Specifically, about 22 hours on October 20, Orion constellation began to appear fully in the eastern sky. If there is no sufficient viewing angle, the viewer can wait until 0 o'clock on the 21st, this constellation will grow higher and about 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours on the 21st, the constellation will be highest and move west .

When observing a supernova, in addition to choosing a safe location, viewers need to choose a place with a wide viewing angle, less air pollution and no eye light. In particular, attention must be paid to the weather issue.
