Vietnam has a scenario to deal with tsunamis

According to some reports, tsunamis that occurred along the coast of Thua Thien-Hue on September 11, 1904, destroyed 22,027 houses, sunk 519 boats and died 724 people.

There are reports that tsunami attacked Nam Dinh coast in 1930, Da Nang in 1964. However, there is no clear evidence to affirm or deny the above information.

Tsunami warning capability of international standards

In our country, there is still no tsunami monitoring system so we have not recorded any information about the tsunami. In many cases, tsunamis are mistaken for storm surges or short wavelength waves. The Earthquake Alert and Tsunami Alert Center was established on September 4, 2007, and is now an official member of the regional and world tsunami warning system. Vietnam, like many Southeast Asian countries located on the Pacific coast, has not been able to equip tsunami monitoring and detection equipment from the middle of the ocean. Therefore, the Center for Earthquake Alert and Tsunami Alerts of member countries have close coordination with the two central centers of the system, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (US) and the Center. Pacific tsunami consultant (Japan Meteorological Bureau). Every time a strong earthquake occurs, a tsunami is likely to occur, warning information is transmitted from these two centers to the centers of the countries in the region, including Vietnam.

Under the direction of the Government, the database contains all 25 scenarios to deal with tsunamis in the South China Sea transferred to the center. When there is information about earthquakes likely to occur tsunamis in the East Sea and coastal Vietnam, earthquake monitoring parameters are entered into the system. The system's calculation tools will automatically select the scenario closest to the real earthquake and provide maps of the corresponding tsunami risk warning, thereby quickly identifying possible areas. Damage caused by tsunamis. On that basis, the system will issue warning messages and corresponding response measures.

Absolutely not affect Vietnam

The earthquake, tsunami on 11-3 in Japan was blocked by this entire country and mainland China, the Philippine Islands . before entering the East Sea, so it was not spread to Vietnam. If there is 'slipping' to the bottom, it will also point to the East of the Philippines but will not affect Vietnam at all. According to the US Seismic Monitoring Agency, in the list of areas warned of the possibility of tsunamis due to this earthquake, there is no Vietnamese name.

In fact, due to its specific location, the coastal area of Vietnam is also likely to be affected mainly by tsunami source areas located in the East Sea. According to scientists, the possibility of tsunamis on the Vietnamese coast is not large but really hidden. If there is a tsunami, the Central and Central region is the most affected and the worst is from Da Nang to Quang Ngai.

On September 15, 2009, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai agreed to deploy 25 scenarios of tsunami risk warning. In which, scenario 4, Manila earthquake in the Philippines (Philippines) 8.6% Richter was selected to build migration options if tsunamis occur, sea dyke upgrades, new sea dykes are built and reinforce coastal routes to cope with this scenario.

Build the first 10 tsunami warning stations in Vietnam

According to the agreement between MARD and Viettel, along the central coast, there will be 100 stations with technical equipment researched and installed by Viettel. The first 10 stations will be built in Da Nang.

In March, the first two stations were built at the top of Hoang Sa Road (Man Thai Ward) and the Information Regiment 575 (Hoa Hiep Nam Ward). There is the highest receiving antenna (30-35 m) with a large capacity siren system. Immediately after the wave reception system recorded the risk of tsunami occurrence in the East Sea, these stations will howl sirens for people, tourists and boats to know and urgently prevent .

The scientific community has also proposed the governments of coastal countries to set up early warning systems and pay attention to planting protective forests. The tsunami of 2004 devastated many coastal areas in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, etc. However, a few places, such as Naluvedapathy village (Tamil Nadu, India), almost like no damage thanks to a forest of coconuts and mangroves that act as walls, limiting the power of tsunamis.
