Vietnam is chairman of Earth Observation Satellite Committee 2019
This is a rotating task once a year for countries that are members of the Committee. The Committee currently has 32 members from major geographic regions such as the US, Europe, Africa, Asia / Pacific.
The Chairman plays a strategic role in coordinating the current and future tasks of the member agencies participating in the Committee.
Prof. Pham Anh Tuan , General Director of Vietnam Center, representing Vietnam, took the position of chairman of the 2019 Earth Observation Satellite Committee - CEOS Chair 2019 at the 32nd meeting of the organizing committee in Brussels (Belgium) , October 16-18.

As the Chairman of the 2019 Earth Observation Satellite Committee, Vietnam will be tasked with strategic coordination of CEOS member agencies; coordinate with the Chairman of the Group in implementing international strategies for disaster mitigation, biodiversity, observing global climate, oceans and land .
Associate Professor Pham Anh Tuan said that when taking over the position of president, Vietnam will come up with two main initiatives: carbon observation (forest areas, coordinating with observing the Earth) to support monitoring and management. Forest management in the area effectively and observed for agriculture (rice monitoring)."These applications are very practical in assessing Vietnam's agricultural development and will be expanded in the Mekong region countries," Tuan said.
At the 32nd plenary session, two Vietnamese initiatives received support and commitment to support from CEOS member organizations in sharing satellite data, training human resources and opportunities to participate. join potential projects.
The CEOS plenary session of 2019 hosted by Vietnam will take place in Hanoi from 14 to 16 October 2019.
The Earth Observation Satellite Committee (CEOS), established in 1984, is the focal point for coordinating international activities related to space and monitoring the Earth.
