The disease is caused by eating the eggs of thick tapeworm pigs in raw vegetables, contaminated water, unprocessed food and pork. A lot of patients get sick from eating pork, lemon and pork. The disease occurs in Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Ha Nam, Nghia Hung (Nam Dinh), Thai Thuy (Thai Binh), Nga Son (Thanh Hoa) and Soc Son (Hanoi).

In fact, the habit of washing raw vegetables through salt water does not make much sense for the vegetables infected with the larvae. According to Dr. Nguyen, it is best to wash the vegetables thoroughly under strong running water and soak them in salt water.

Until now, all drugs used for treatment of fascioliasis, such as Triclabendazole (Egaten 250mg brand-name drug), have been funded by the World Health Organization, and patients are given free medicines, not on the market. Because of the sudden increase in the situation, the amount of medicine given as every year has been used up, so some drugs that are not as effective as Triclabendazole must be used.
