Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky is a famous chemist and photographer with revolutionary work promoting color photography in the early 20th century.

He was born in Funikova Gora of the former Russian Empire on August 30, 1863. His family belongs to nobles.

After moving to Saint Petersburg, Prokudin-Gorsky studied chemistry at the Saint Petersburg State Institute of Technology. He also studied painting and music at the Royal Academy of Arts.

He soon joined the Royal Society of Russian Technologists and was particularly interested in photography. Then he founded a photography laboratory and his own studio in 1901 in Saint Petersburg.

Not long after that, he studied color sensitivity in Germany in 1902 and began applying chemical knowledge to photography. He is a pioneer in the three-color principle to promote color photography.

Prokudin-Gorsky was soon known for color photography , funded to record the image of Russia after impressing Tsar Nicholas II and his family in 1909.

He accumulated a collection of more than 10,000 color photographs of Russia in the early 1900s, providing important historical records regarding Russia's people, architecture, landscapes and daily life. then.

He died in Paris on September 27, 1944 at the age of 81. His groundbreaking work not only meant to promote color photography but also played an important role in art and history.
