Why can cockroaches live even when they have ... lost their heads?

Cockroach is a strange creature. Most animals will die as soon as they lose their head and can live for a few weeks later. Even the head left the body to live independently for several hours! Why?

Scientists have conducted many strange (and equally scary) experiments with cockroaches. They found that even the cockroach heads were cut off could live up to several hours. If the head is frozen and infused with nutrients, it will even live longer.
